--this world began with a creature not unlike a blue whale. They say it floated alone in the sea of eternity and breathed long sighs of loneliness until one day, its loneliness was so strong, so real that it became tangible and the whale was no longer alone.

Its sighs were bubbles, and on that day, the sigh-bubble did not pop, but remained and grew and then the world was there.

The world was spare and quiet and still, wind blowing through things not unlike trees, but dead. It was winter. It was a lonely world, but the whale was no longer lonely.

But after a while, they say, the world was not enough. It could not speak to the whale, or entertain the whale, and the whale was so heartbroken that it began to sob, and its tears drowned the world.

And the world was reborn.

They say out of the tears came more trees, and flora not unlike plants and fauna not unlike animals. Out of the tears came seas of fresh water and lakes of salty and snow on the high peaks of mountains and the flats of northern plains.

And then the people came.

No one knows where the people were from. They say the people were not tears.

They say that so we can be special.

We are not.

Also, I'm very vague on the details, because a) I've only read the English, and b) my first Aatsuki fic ever, and c) I'm still don't 100% understand what's going on in there, so forgive me, dear, if anything's severly off. And yes, these are the 700 words that gave me absolute hell. DX I'm sorry it's not longer. I'm also sorry it's so introspective. PLEASE ACCEPT MY LOVE AND COOKIES AND FIC ANYWAY.

This is all flakedice's fault. Entirely. You see, she wrote this fic, in which spiritbait!Doumeki breaks a very expensive vase of Yuuko's and then has to be her maid for an indefinite period of time, and I went "HOMG LOLOLOLOLOL HOST CLUB." Anyway, that fic inspired this thread, and well...I was too tempted.

And I was depressed after andreaphobia remixed the angstiest fic I've EVER EVER written and it was SO ANGSTY and then smokexscribbles ended Timepiece in an incredibly angsty way and then Tsubasa 201 happened and I was contemplating drowning myself in the shower just to escape the angst when I remembered this fic.

So I finished a little bit of it. Only about 1000 words, but still. It's a little island oasis of crack ahem, not-angst in a fandom that all of a sudden decided to jump in the Angst Ocean.

Notes: So. I decided that if other fandoms could write AUs with someone other than the canon main character as the main character, then so could I! And then it turned into a 'how badly can I make Doumeki suffer fic?'

But yeah. Entire fic is from Doumeki's POV. Except for one tiny interlude near the end, but epic fic is epic, srsly. I'm at 10,000 words right now for a draft in a word doc and a prose outline and I haven't even written down much of the plot yet.

So yeah.

Final note: The creatures I'm referring to as 'spirits' are the spirits like the oden foxes--ones that, from my estimation, grow and mature as humans do (though not necessarily at the same rate, but in this fic their aging processes, at least until maturing into adulthood, happen at approximately the same rate as humans' do (i.e., about 18-20 years). Ghosts (as in dead people) will be referred to as, well, ghosts, and those blobbly things that chase Watanuki around don't rear their ugly heads until much later, so I'm still working on a name for them. XD
